A BRIEF HISTORY OF BLACK MUSIC
FUNDRAISER FOR SHADOW THEATRE COMPANY
Sunday, August 22 at the Shadow Theatre

On Sunday, August 22 local area White talent comes together to sing and dance their way through an evening of songs specifically designated for the African American performer.  John Ashton emcees A Brief History of Black Music, a benefit fundraiser for Shadow Theatre Company being held at the Shadow Theatre, 1468 Dayton St. Doors open for a pre-show reception at 6 p.m. with the performance beginning at 7 p.m.

What White performer will ever get the opportunity to sing the beautiful songsfrom Porgy & Bess,  Carmen Jones, Bubbling Brown Sugar, The Wiz and Dreamgirls or the lullaby from Ragtime, or "Ol Man River" from Showboat?  Local area singer and dancers have been invited to participate to sing show tunes designated for an African American performer or to cover a song made famous by an African American singer.  This is the white theatre community's gift to Shadow Theatre Company; all singing - all dancing - from the African American lexicon of great songs.
